Karaoke Queen

October 15, 2011

Life has its ups and downs.  Life has been throwing me some major downers lately so I've decided to change that around.

Plan: find fun, (different) things to do.
Today's adventure: Karaoking- I've had a love for karaoke since high school when I would occasionally visit the Korean Karaoke "Bars" (Nore-Bang which literally translates to singing room).  I need to clarify, I'm a horrible singer but I love karaoke.

I rekindled my love for karaoke six months ago in Miami when I went to a karaoke bar for a friend's bachelorette party festivities.  Then I went two more times in the few short weeks I had left there.  The place: Studio at the Shelborne Hotel in Miami Beach.  I don't know how it took me 2+ years to finally discover that place.  It's equipped with a stage and prop instruments and if you go early on a weeknight, (10pm) you can sing your heart out without waiting hours to sing one song.

Anyway, friends + I had a room reserved for two hours at Yes KTV, a Chinese Karaoke Bar in China Town.  It's $35/hour for a small room on weekend nights and has BYOB (with a corkage fee).  Those mics in the rooms are heavily amplified, which made me feel like I was the greatest singer ever...hmm...ok nothing could really make me into a better singer but it was kind of amazing.
A night with good company and Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey and Journey was just what I needed.  Maybe I need to brush up on more recent songs cause the only songs I really knew by heart were from the late 90s/early 2000s.
BTW...Black Eye Peas My Humps may be the dumbest song ever.  I guess I never really paid attention to those lyrics before....omg.
