On the way to Europe last month, our itinerary included a 9 hour layover in Boston. So with some extra time to kill, the husband and I left the airport and explored Beantown for a bit.
First, we had a reunion with our favorite New England dishes that we had on our New England trip a couple years ago: clam chowder, crab cakes and a lobster roll from James Hook & Co.
As we walked around the city, I remembered a bakery that I always wanted to try since the mid-2000s (I used to love watching Throwdown with Bobby Flay and he featured the Boston bakery Flour Bakery).
With the intent on getting a couple of plane treats, I found myself pleasantly surprised looking at cupcakes in the display case. They had two flavors available that day so I opted for the fruity Buttermilk Cupcake with Blackberry Frosting for 5.25.
I had such high hopes for this cupcake but it ultimately did not meet my expectations. It was dry and overbaked. It also had way too much frosting that was oddly waxy in texture. On a positive note, the cookies were absolutely delicious and made for the perfect pre-flight snack.
