I'm writing as an iPhone user but most of these apps are available on Android devices too.
1. For the times when I'm without my fancy camera, I turn to Hipstamatic for their Loftus Lens, which is part of their Foodie SnapPak. It adds vivid colors, creates a crisp picture and even adds bokeh, which help make the food look as good as it tastes.
2. VSCO Cam is my favorite picture editing app. It's a little fancier than your Instagram and iPhone filters since you can customize them. My favorite filters: F2/Mellow and T1/Moody. You can also purchase more filters or find freebies from time to time.
3. I love Instagram (shameless plug: follow me!). To make the perfect Instagram pic, I put my picture through VSCO cam and then use Squaready to make it a wide-screen picture within the confines of the Instagram square. Then if I'm in the mood to add some fun text, I use Rhonna Designs to add my favorite font: the label maker.
4. I've mentioned Foodspotting in the past but it doesn't hurt to gush about it again. For those of you who go in search of a specific dish when traveling (cupcakes!), this app helps you search other users' pictures of said dish and maps it for you. This is how I was taken to my most favorite cupcake ever in Seattle almost three years ago. Or you can search based on what's tasty looking nearby.
5. Aside from food and photo apps, I love using the Line messaging app. It's free to send texts over wifi and who could resist sending messages just by using their stickers (glorified emoji). My favorite is the girl above, who is so excited she's biting her nails!

7. Charge up with this handy portable, compact charger. I got this for my Florida trip last month and it worked like a charm.
