Road Trip Cupcake No. 2

July 30, 2015

I've completed road trip number 2 in this summer of many long car rides, hauling my entire life with me. Number 3 begins tomorrow but luckily it won't include a car full of my belongings.

The Daily Meal's annual list of best cupcake bakeries in the country has been a great way for me to see if any amazing cupcakeries are along my route while traveling. Lucky for me, there was one not too far from the interstate in Cleveland, where I was going to stop for lunch to see my friend Bob. (The Cleveland bakery was listed as number 74 on their 2014 list).
Campbell's Sweets Factory is part cupcake shop and part gourmet popcorn shop (along with some other delicious sweets). After surveying their cupcake case with large, beautiful treats, I settled on a Snickerdoodle cupcake for me and picked up Bob his favorite flavor: red velvet. Each cupcake is $2.50.
Bob quickly gobbled his up even after our Chipotle lunch; he thoroughly enjoyed the cake. After watching him immediately devour the cupcake, I couldn't wait to dive head first into mine. It was moist and fluffy and so flavorful. The cake wasn't too sweet but the frosting was a bit too sugary, which led to a little gritty and a little crackly, dry frosting. But all complaints aside, this cupcake was so delicious and a perfect pick-me-up during my monotonous drive from Buffalo to Chicago.
