Cupcakes Are Forever

July 29, 2014

I've been very proactive about cupcaking lately. It seems like that's the only thing I'm doing to prepare for my move from Buffalo. (I am, as usual, avoiding packing like the plague. But I still have a little less than a month).

And you may think that my cupcaking ways have the potential to go wayside since many have claimed that with the closing of Crumbs Bake Shop, the cupcake fad is officially over. I think that the demise of Crumbs doesn't speak for the rest of the cupcake world. I've tasted a Crumbs in my first summer on the Cupcake Hunt and while it was ok, I saw its flaws: too big and overpriced. I couldn't really believe that the shop was part of a chain since the product wasn't that decent. Hopefully quality will shine and the great cupcake shops will still be left standing. Cupcakes are forever.

Now that I've gotten that off my chest, back to more fun things, like eating cupcakes.

I finally made it out to the suburb of Clarence to Babycakes Cupcakery. Clarence is one of the more ritzier suburbs in Buffalo and is about 20 miles from the city. It was a bit out of the way for me but I wasn't going to leave Buffalo without trying a Babycakes.
located at: 10070 Main Street, Clarence, New York
There were about six flavors available that day and I decided on the Peanut Butter Lover cupcake: a chocolate cupcake topped with peanut butter frosting, chocolate ganache and even a mini peanut butter cup. I've always been a sucker for the peanut butter/chocolate combo. I also ordered a banana cupcake for my friend Jenn as a birthday cupcake. Each cupcake is $2.50.
I was so pleasantly surprised with my Babycakes. It was perfectly moist and not too sweet. I thought it had the perfect amount of frosting, which might be on the skimpier end of frosting coverage but it was perfect for me. It was so tasty.
But then I sampled the banana cupcake and it was definitely drier, which kind of ruined my impression of the bakery. The flavors were pretty good in the banana but the Peanut Butter Lover was definitely a better cupcake.

So I guess beware, choose wisely and hopefully you'll end up with a completely delicious cupcake from Babycakes.
